Congratulations to PPH Research Scientist, Dr. Erica Diminich, who recently learned that she was selected for the The National Institutes of Health, Loan Repayment Programs (LRPs), funded under the National Institute on Aging. In exchange for a two year commitment to research, this highly competitive NIH Program selects rising clinicians and scientists, repaying $100,000 of student loan debt over two years. Dr. Diminich also participated in the invitation-only prestigious Butler-Williams Scholars program hosted at the NIH in July. This program is an annual initiative of the NIH’s National Institute on Aging (NIA), which provides a week-long series of lectures, seminars and meetings with NIH/NIA staff and senior researchers from across the country. The focus this year was on topics related to the biology of aging, genetics and Alzheimer’s disease. Approximately fifty scholars from across the United States are invited to participate each year. The basis for Dr. Diminich’s selection as an NIH LRP recipient and Butler Williams Scholar, stems from her emerging research examining disparities in brain health and aging in Latinos at mid-life. This work is under the mentorship of our very own Dr. Sean Clouston, and is supported by pilot funding from the NIA P30AG059300 (PI Dr Diminich) and supplement 5R01AG049953-05 (PI: Dr Clouston).
