Advanced Graduate Certificate in Aging Populations and Healthcare Administration

Stony Brook University’s Advanced Graduate Certificate in Aging Populations and Healthcare Administration is a 15-credit program that will equip students with knowledge and skills needed to excel in leadership roles in aging care settings. 

Whether seeking to advance their careers or transition into a new role, graduates will be prepared to make meaningful contributions to the delivery of high-quality care for older adults and individuals with chronic illnesses or disabilities. In particular, graduates will be able to take leadership roles in settings such as nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and community-based care organizations. In addition, courses in this certificate fully address the academic record requirements to sit for the licensure exam administered by the New York State Board of Examiners of Nursing Home Administrators.

Application Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum 3.0 GPA from an accredited institution.
  • Official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions. International transcripts require evaluation by NACES-accredited agency
  • Two letters of recommendation addressing your potential for future success in healthcare administration or related fields and graduate-level study. 
  • A maximum 500-word essay submitted via SOPHAS addressing the following: An increasing proportion of the U.S. and the world’s population is composed of older adults. How will your background and the skills/knowledge attained through this Advanced Graduate Certificate prepare you for leadership roles in healthcare settings that care for older adults?
  • A personal interview, if requested by the admissions committee. 

For International Applicants:

  • TOEFL Requirement: Applicants who trained in non-English-speaking schools and do not reside in an English-speaking country must take the TOEFL. Minimum scores: 213 (Computer-Based), 90 (Internet-Based), or 550 (Paper-Based).
  • Credential Evaluation: A course-by-course evaluation by a NACES-accredited agency is required. We require using World Education Services (WES).
    • The WES evaluation must include U.S. course equivalents, semester hours, course content, and letter grades for all international transcripts.
    • This evaluation must be completed for your application to be considered.
