Healthier U, Stony Brook University's new wellness initiative for employees and the community, has organized a wide variety of events for the summer! Highlights are listed below with brief descriptions and links for registration.

Learn to be Tobacco Free

Learn To Be Tobacco Free is a six-week, one hour per week program. Techniques to stop smoking as well as stress management, relaxation and behavior modification will be shared. Skills will be developed. Nicotine replacement is offered for 3 months as indicated. The program is free and you need not stop smoking to attend. Speaker is a smoking cessation counselor/educator with the Suffolk County Department of Health or with Stony Brook University. Classes begin August 1, 2013. Look Good, Feel Better Support Program

Look Good, Feel Better is a free, non-medical, brand-neutral, national public service program created to help individuals with cancer look good, improve their self-esteem, and manage their treatment and recovery with greater confidence. If you are going through chemotherapy or radiation, please join us for a session of this program. Sponsored by the American Cancer Society. The next event is on August 5, 2013. Healthy Eating with Dr. Irina Lokshina

Nutrition for management of chronic pain and immunity enhancement. Topics include information and research findings on how eating certain foods can help to reduce inflammation and facilitate weight loss; types of foods that help to enhance immunity to combat stress and improve overall well being; examples for incorporating healthy eating into one's daily life. Relax with Reiki

Free reiki group for patients, family members and staff. Come discover the calming power of reiki, a relaxation technique designed to promote balance and wellness. The next session is on August 21, 2013. More information can be found here.

Bariatric and Metabolic Weight Loss Seminar

Freedom from obesity is attainable. The key to success is to choose the right combination of tools and support within an individualized clinical program directed by a leader in the field. Our interdisciplinary Bariatric and Metabolic Weight Loss Center develops treatment plans tailored to each patient's needs, lifestyle and goals. Options may include behavior modification, counseling, diet, exercise, group support, medical management and advanced bariatric surgery.
