What advice would you give to a new student in the program?

Plan
ahead! For anyone in the MD/MPH program, in particular, it’s difficult to fit
in all the classes if you plan
to graduate with both degrees within four years. It’s possible, but it takes
some planning to make sure
that all required courses fit into your schedule. For example, 2 of the
required classes meet on the same
night. So make sure that you plan ahead to take both of those in different
semesters.

What do you enjoy most about the program?

During
the first 2 years of medical school, I found it especially rewarding to
participate in the MD/MPH Program.
The MPH courses gave me an escape from the more straight-forward basic science
courses in med
school. They provided a forum for thinking about the broader issues related to
the provision of quality
medical care and for using different parts of my brain to analyze in ways that
contrasted with the memorization
skills required for medical school. I’m grateful that I had such an outlet for
some of my more
creative and analytic interests while completing the required medical school
coursework.
