  • Congratulations to Dr. Hale for her recently published research in JAMA-Pediatrics, Association Between Portable Screen-Based Media Device Access or Use and Sleep Outcomes, being listed as #61 of the top 100 most discussed science journal articles of 2016! 
  • Congratulations to Dr. Hale for being featured in "Editor in a (60 second) Spotlight" by Elsevier! Dr. Hale is editor in chief of the Journal of the National Sleep Foundation.

Congratulations to Dr. Clouston and Dr. Kidman for each winning an award for a poster presented at the Annual Meeting of the Population Association of America, for their respective studies, The Role of Birth Cohort in Changing Expectations about Cognitive Aging and Do Protect National Marriage Age Policies Reduce the Practice of Child Marriage?

Congratulations to PPH alum, Michael Lamb (’14), for passing the CPH exam (taken in February 2016), indicating that he has met the competency requirements to be Certified in Public Health.

Congratulations to PPH alum, Margaret Pichardo (’13), for her acceptance into the National Institutes of Health’s Cancer Research Interns program.  She will be spending her summer looking at the link between prostate cancer and obesity, working under Drs. Stephan Ambs and Cheryl Jacobs Smith at the NCI – Center for Cancer Research.

Congratulations to MPH students for presenting posters for the 10th Annual Women in Research Day at Stony Brook. Sara Goldgraben – Delivering High Quality Colorectal Cancer Screening, Mishal Riaz – Using a Psychosocial Distress Screening Tool to Improve the Quality of Care for Patients in the Stony Brook Canter Center, and Masra Shameem - Knowledge and Attitudes towards the HPV Vaccine Among South-Asian Parents: Barriers to Recruitment.

Congratulations Dr. Jaymie Meliker, Core Faculty in Public Health, and Associate Professor in the Department of Family, Population and Preventive Medicine, for recently accepting an invitation to serve as a member of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Chemical Safety Advisory Committee.

Congratulations to faculty member, Dr. Lauren Hale!  The journal Sleep Health, won the PROSE award for the best new journal in Science, Technology and Medicine! Dr. Hale is founding editor of this journal and this award is great recognition of its successful launch this past year.

Shout out to PPH faculty, Dr. Amy Hammock, PPH alum, Ahmed Belazi ('10), and PPH student, Smita Majumdar Das, along with many other Stony Brook faculty and staff, for their work on the Green Dot initiative, a bystander intervention training for preventing forms of power-based personal violence (such as rape and sexual assault).  Read More

Congratulations to MPH student, Shabana Humayon, who presented on her work with “Fit Families for Life”, on October 22, at the 2nd Annual Perspectives in Patient and Family Education conference.  The conference was held at NYU Langone Medical Center and celebrated National Health Education Week. Dr. Sharon Martino is the principle investigator for “Fit Families for Life” and is Shabana’s mentor. Thank you, Shabana, for being a terrific representation of PPH’s work in the community!

Congratulations to Dr. John Rizzo for receiving an award from the Aortic Institute at Yale School of Medicine! Over the past 20 years, Dr. Rizzo has collaborated with the institute on cardiothoracic clinical outcomes research projects. Dr. Rizzo has also advised the institute on statistical methods for conducting such research.

Public health faculty member, Dr. Carrie Shandra was recently featured on The Public Health Minute, a radio segment which airs nationally on NPR stations. This piece highlights Dr. Shandra's research on disability and productivity. Click here to listen to the segment.
